About
Your club on the Sunshine Coast
We bring pilots together to enjoy flying on the Sunshine Coast and Hinterland safely, now and into the future.
Welcome to the Sunny Coast. While the general public might know the area for famous surf breaks at Noosa or notable crags across the Glasshouse Mountains, our pilots get intimate with the region from a totally different vantage point.
Imagine gliding along miles of pristine beaches while spotting whales over the ocean at Teewah, dipping your toes in the sand for endless foot drags in the dunes of Rainbow Beach, or scratching on the face of Mt. Ngun Ngun… only to bomb out next to the station and catch a train to the nearest brewery for a consolation prize.
This paradise is home to our SAFA affiliated club, Sunshine Coast Free Flyers.
Our club is dedicated to fun, camaraderie, mentorship and inclusivity. Although we all technically fly solo (with the exception of tandems, of course) we don’t see flying as a solo sport. We believe in sharing adventures and wisdom, joining forces to get pesky wings out of trees, and debriefing at the pub after an epic cross-country flight.
Our community of pilots don’t just fly together – we enjoy life together.
For new pilots, the Sunny Coast is home to two fantastic paragliding schools run by instructors who live and breathe flying with the full support of our club. Like us, they are passionate about growing the sport and helping new pilots get off the ground. From there, we hope to mentor and support pilots to ensure safe progression in the sport.
At a top level, our club goals include supporting our members to learn and thrive at all levels, securing awesome sites across the region, and building a safe and friendly community of pilots.
And while we’re all about fun, expressive flying, and enjoying each other’s company, we also understand that our flying sites are precious. We take landholder rules very seriously and won’t tolerate any behaviour that could jeopardise our flying sites or stakeholder relationships.
Ultimately, our club ethos reflects the fact that for many of us, flying isn’t just a hobby – it’s a lifestyle. One that should be nurtured, protected, and shared.
So, whether you’d like to navigate our striking volcanic plugs (that’s not a euphemism), swoop and holler over our coastal gems (make sure to check out the friendly sea eagles), or go big XC across lush hinterland forests (Widgee has recorded 100km+ flights on the shortest day of winter), we invite you to sign up to the Sunny Coast Free Flyers and share the paradise that we call home.
Please join the club and contact a Club Safety Officer to get the latest information on a site before flying.
